A 19-year-old man accused of trying to break into a car in an Atlanta apartment complex parking structure was taken to the hospital in stable condition after leaping 55 feet to try to escape police officers.

A teen suspected of a car break-in attempt last week jumped five stories from a parking structure to try to flee Atlanta police, an escape attempt that was caught on an officer's body-worn camera.

The incident happened just before 3 a.m. Friday when police responded to a call in connection with vehicle break-ins at an apartment complex's parking area, The Atlanta Journal-Consitution reports. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a 19-year-old suspect and two others trying to flee in a vehicle before crashing.

Police arrested the vehicle's driver following the crash, and they pursued two other suspects on foot.

The chase eventually led to the 19-year-old suspect—Cartier Evans—leaping five stories from the apartment complex's parking structure to try to escape. He fell 55 feet and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Evans and a second suspect—Jalen Wright, 20—have been charged with aggravated assault, attempted auto theft and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The third suspect has not been taken into custody.
